Your heating and cooling system is the largest, most powerful appliance in your home. It operates using 240 volts of electricity, natural gas, and complex mechanical moving parts. Electrical Hazards

During a safety inspection, a technician tightens all high-voltage connections, tests capacitors for bulging or leaking, and measures the amperage draw of all motors to ensure they aren't dangerously overheating.

For gas furnaces, safety inspections are absolutely non-negotiable. A technician must use specialized 'sniffer' tools to check the gas valve, manifold, and piping for microscopic leaks.
