The Danger of Oversizing
The most common mistake in residential AC replacement is installing a unit that is too large for the home, often because the contractor didn't perform a proper Manual J Load Calculation. An oversized AC unit will cool the house too quickly and shut off (short cycling). Because it doesn't run long enough, it fails to remove humidity from the air, leaving your home feeling cold but clammy, and drastically wearing out the compressor.
Ductwork Evaluation
Connecting a brand new, high-efficiency AC system to 30-year-old leaky, undersized ductwork is like putting a Ferrari engine in a broken down truck. Before any installation, the ductwork must be evaluated for static pressure, leaks, and proper return air sizing. If the new system cannot breathe properly, the evaporator coil will freeze, and the blower motor will burn out prematurely.
